Japan — One Picture at a Time

Announcement

May 29, 2009 · 1 Comment

So I’m sure some of you, well, if anyone still reads this, lol, are wondering if I’m going to EVER finish this.

My Reply: Yes, I am going to finish it.

You say: Well what’s the point, this was supposed to be a picture a day, not all of your pictures at the end.

My Reply: Deal with it.  The internet is so achingly slow on my computer, updating this takes real patience, and I don’t have much of that at the moment.

I’m coming home tomorrow, I land in DET at 5:30 AM on Sunday and then when I get real internet and maybe even use a faster computer, I’ll finish it.  I’ve been keeping pretty detailed notes on the things I’ve done, and I’ve got a particularly good memory, so yeah, just keep your eyes peeled, I’ll finish it.

And then I’ll do a Top 10 Things all ryugakusei coming to Kansai Gaidai need to know.  Cause let me tell you, there are things they DO NOT tell you.

Much love,

Megan

Dragon -- Shinsaibashi once again

Dragon -- Shinsaibashi once again

Yes, I’m sorry for the lack of updates.  But I’ve been pretty darn good about keeping details about everyday so when I eventually updated, I would know everything that happened or have triggers to remind me.  So, I have to mention, that I’m doing this when I SHOULD be studying for Finals.  But then again, whoever does what their supposed to, especially college students?

Day 65 — Studying

In one of the main 'food' areas in Shinsaibashi :)

What can I say, this was one of the most boring days I’ve had here.  I had a big mid-term I needed to study for, but I found myself getting distracted with the internet.  Whoever invented it should be cursed, for it is so entertaining it draws me from my studies.  Darnit.

So yeah, didn’t do anything today, real exciting.  Hey, at least there’s a picture.

Day 64 — Sleeping in? Me? Nooo.

Me in front of the Glico sign

Me in front of the Glico sign

After spending more money than I had wanted to, I knew I was staying in for the rest of the weekend.  I woke up at roughly 2 PM and studied a bit for my Making News in Japan midterm, but mostly procrastinated updating this blog. :)

Oh yeah, and I forgot to mention, last night in Shinsaibashi, we found a small flea market of sorts of people selling their hand made arts and crafts.  There was one guy who twisted metal wiring into shapes, and I’m absolutely in love with it.  It’s amazing.  Remember this. :)

Day 62 — Nande daro?

Flash! You can find this all over Hirakata

Flash! You can find this all over Hirakata

I had signed up for the first time slot for Motohashi-sensei’s reading test, 9:53 AM, to get it done and out of the way.  Ugggh, I almost didn’t make it on time, and had to skip my morning visit to the bathroom to actually arrive on time.  I sat down, she handed me one of the three passages, I read it, finished it before the alotted time had run out and looked at her.  She said very good, and told me I could go.  I walked out, looked at the people waiting for their turn and laughed.  We literally had to read one of the three passages we’d gone over and read in class, so it was very easy.

I then studied for a bit in the lounge with Xavier until it was time for Saigo-sensei’s midterm.  We knew the format, and knew all of the material on it, so I made sure to know the grammar points front and back, along with most of the vocabulary, before walking in.  We sat down with all of his other sections (he has three) and took the midterm.  I finished quickly, feeling pretty confident when I walked out.  I then went to lunch with my friend Elena and her friends, where, I had, you guessed it, katsudon.

I saw Xavier as he was walking out and joined him to leave the cafeteria and head over to classes.  I walked into Body/Comm, ready for day 2 of dance and gesture in Japan.  We watched a bunch more video clips, including two guys who did a comedy act/song with the words ‘nande daro?’  It was hilarious.  After Body/Comm I hung out in the computer lab until 4 PM when I had Japanese Cinema.  We watched a movie about a guy who gets trapped in a sand pit by the villagers and is forced to work in the sand to keep his life.  By the end of the movie, he’s lost his mind.  :(

Afterwards, you guessed it, studying!  One more Japanese midterm, then I was home-free, until… my English midterms started.

Day 61 — No alarm during the week? Amazing

Donuts from Mister Donut :)

Donuts from Mister Donut :)

As the title states, I didn’t have to set an alarm today!  I was so happy when I woke up naturally, stretching and looking around.  The sun was beating mercilessly into our room, so I looked at my phone and it said 12:30 PM!  I jumped out of bed and started getting ready for the day, having wanted to cook lunch and eat before heading out for class after 3.

Day 60 — ‘You Know I Worry About You’

I woke up early, which is surprising enough for me.  :)   So I studied a bit more before heading to campus and preparing for my spoken mid-term with Saigo-sensei.  As I got there I found the other kids from my class sitting outside his door, and joined them in their worrying and stressing.  One by one we all went in, and after each person came out we all asked them how it was.

Day 59 — Sheets Change!

Snake wine anyone?

Snake wine anyone?

I woke up, still feeling sick and NOT wanting to go to class.  But as it was the last spoken class before the impending doom of midterms, I got out of bed and went.  To sit for 10 minutes, and then be released, saying we needed to study.  Grrrrrr @ you, Saigo-sensei.  I got back to the seminar house, ate a quick lunch of ramen noodles, before taking the most epic nap, and resulting in missing my News class @ 4, from Noon to 6 PM.  I woke up feeling refreshed, changed the sheets on my bed (we get to change our sheets roughly every two weeks here :) ) and studied for a little bit.  I had my spoken midterm with Saigo-sensei the next morning at 11:24, so I knew I needed to be prepared.

On the beach in Okinawa

Yep, you guess it, I spent the day studying.  Pretty boring actually.  At this point, can’t wait for mid-terms to be over.  They’re like impending doooooom.
